Frequently Asked Questions

I've lost or forgotten my login information.  How do I find my login information?

During business hours you can call the BIE Department office at 937-775-5044 or send an email to meg.wiltshire@wright.edu with "Request for Login Information" in the subject.  Requests made after 5 PM Eastern will be answered the next business day.

When will lectures be posted online?

Lectures will be posted within 3 business days of the in-class lecture.  The lecture links will be activated when the lecture is ready for online viewing.

Why is there a QuickTime video file (.mov) and a Flash video file (.flv) for each class lecture?

The QuickTime videos files are intended to be downloaded to your computer for offline viewing (without an Internet connection).  The Flash video files are progressive download files and are intended to be viewed online (with an Internet connection).

Why can't I save the Flash video files to my computer?

Flash video files are intended to be viewed online.  The Flash video files are progressive download files, meaning that the file is sent to your computer in small packets.  When the web page containing the movie is opened, just enough of the file is downloaded to enable you to begin watching the video.  The rest of file is sent in packets as your watch the video.  This should not be noticeable to the you.  There may be small pauses during the playback.  No information will be lost and the video will begin again as soon as there is enough information to resume playback.

I don't think my Internet connection is fast enough to watch the lectures online.  What should I do?

Most Internet connections will be fast enough to watch the lectures online (ISDN, DSL, wireless broadband, satellite, cable).   Students with Dial-up Internet connections should download the QuickTime files to view offline.  This is probably best done overnight.  The lectures can also be downloaded to a flash drive from work or a library.

The download for the lecture files stops before the download is complete.  Why is this happening?

The most likely reason for this is the file size limit for temporary Internet files on your computer.  Please see the tutorial on changing the file size limit for temporary Internet files on the Tutorials page.

How large are the file sizes?

Most of the files will be between 500 MB and 1 GB.   Most lectures will be over 1 and 1/2 hours of video and audio.

Can I watch/listen to the lectures on my iPod or MP3 player?

We plan to have this capability available to students during the Winter 2008 quarter.

My question isn't covered here.  What should I do?

During business hours you can call the BIE Department office at 937-775-5044 or send an email to meg.wiltshire@wright.edu with "Distance Question" in the subject.  Questions submitted after 5 PM Eastern will not be handled until the next business day.  Some questions may take additional time to answer or resolve.
