Leo Finkelstein, Jr., Ph.D., ECS, has published a technical writing handbook entitled Pocket Book of Technical Writing for Engineers and Scientists, McGraw-Hill Higher Education, 2000.

Jennie Gallimore, Ph.D., BIE, (with N.G. Brannon, F.R. Patterson, and J.P. Nalepka) has published an article entitled "Effects of FOV and aircraft bank on pilot head movement and reversal errors during simulated flight" in Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine, 1999, 70 (12), 1152-60.

Oscar Garcia, Ph.D., and P. Bruce Berra, Ph.D., CSE, have received additional funding on behalf of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the amount of $420,588 from the Ohio Board of Regents for the Priorities in Graduate Education initiative.

T. J. Leger, Master’s candidate, ME; J. Mitch Wolff, Ph.D., ME, and Phil Beran, Research Scientist, AFRL, have published an article entitled "Efficient Determination of Aeroelastic Stability Properties Using a Direct Method" in the International Journal of Mathematical and Computer Modeling, Vol. 30, No. 11/12, pp. 95-110, 1999.

Sharmila Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D., ME, presented a talk entitled "Bonding Between Dissimilar Materials: Can they be Controlled?" to the Ph.D. Colloquium at the University of Pittsburgh, November 11, 1999. Dr. Mukhopadhyay has also recently published a paper (with R.R. Garcia and N. Mahadev) entitled "Influence of Surface Doping on Sintering and Microstructure of a Superconducting Oxide" in Physica C, 313, 205-12, 1999; and another (with S. Sengupta, E. Caprino, K. Card, J. R. Gaines, L.R. Motowildo, R.S. Sokolowski and R.R. Garcia) entitled "Synthesis of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Powders for Silver Composite Wires with Uniform Microsized Filaments" in IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, Vol.9, 2, 2601-4, June, 1999.

Another of her articles entitled "Microstructural Analysis of Strongly-Linked Joint Formed in a Superconductor" (written with N. Mahadev and S. Sengupta), was published in Physica C, 329 (2) 95-101, January 15, 2000. Of special note, this article was cited prior to its appearance in print by the DOE/ARPA sponsored international newsletter on superconductivity (High Tc Update, Vol. 14, No. 1, January 1, 2000, p. 2).

Chandler Phillips, M.D., Ph.D., BIE; David Reynolds, Ph.D., BIE; and Richard Koubek, Ph.D., BIE, have received funding in the amount of $10,000 from the National Science Foundation, Research Experience for Undergraduates program, for their proposal entitled "REU Supplement—Bioengineering Design Projects for the Disabled."

B.A. Shenoi, Ph.D., EE, was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in recognition of his many contributions to the mission of the CAS Society during the last 40 years. He has also been selected to receive an IEEE Millennium Medal for his "outstanding achievements and contributions." Only a few of the over 340,000 members are selected for this honor. Hence, it is a very prestigious honor. The medals will be presented to Dr. Shenoi during the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in May, 2000.

Raghavan Srinivasan, Ph.D., ME, has received funding in the amount of $1,200 from MetLab, Division Metallurgical Services, Inc., for his proposal entitled "Composite Studies."

J. Mitch Wolff, Ph.D., ME, and Ramana Grandhi, Ph.D., ME, have received additional funding in the amount of $150,000 from the Department of Defense, Air Force Research Laboratory, for their proposal entitled "Precision Design, Modeling and Instrumentation in Turbomachinery."
