Pre-Admission

Applying to colleges and universities can be quite overwhelming, especially for parents attempting to guide their child through the process for the first time. The College of Engineering and Computer Science can help you navigate this process.

As your son or daughter begins their college search, you may have many questions and concerns. Your son or daughter will be making a very important and personal decision that will impact their academic, professional, and extracurricular life. While many aspects of that decision will involve you, the decision to succeed in college and pursue a future career path in engineering or computer science ultimately becomes the responsibility of your adult child.

At Wright State, and in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, we have many resources to help you and your student make these important decisions. In selecting a college, there may be many considerations -- what programs are offered, activities, location, cost, housing, etc. Our best advice is to:

  • Make a personal visit to all of the schools that interest your son or daughter. There are many great engineering programs in the region, but each has its own set of things they emphasize and take pride in. We've prepared a College Comparison Checklist that you can download and print. It can help when you are visiting schools and want to have a way of recording the pros and cons of each school.
  • When visiting a campus, walk around and speak to students as well as administrators. Ask your son or daughter to imagine living and learning on the campus for the next four years. Does it feel right?
  • Apply early so you don't miss out on any opportunities for scholarships. WSU's Academic Performance Scholarships need no separate application but students must apply by February 15. Other scholarships offered through the Honors Program and other sources have separate applications and deadlines (some in January or earlier).

If you have questions or concerns that aren't addressed on our website, please feel free to contact us. You may contact any of our Enrollment Advisors to schedule a visit, discuss the application process, or ask any question you may have about college in general. We are here to help you through the college decision process and make the best choice for your child.
