Semester Transition

Welcome! We have developed some tools and instructions to assist you in this process. If you have questions, members of the department and the advising staff are here to assist you. Please do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with your advisor. The Semester Transition Planning Guide and the Semester DARS are helpful planning tools for all students who will be affected by the transition to semesters in Fall 2012. Follow the instructions below to begin your semester transition planning.

Semester Transition Planning Guide Instructions

The Semester Transition Planning Guides contain the current quarter program on the left side of the page and the semester program on the right side of the page. The courses listed in green indicate that you either need to complete the course sequence OR that the course is not required in the semester program. Pay close attention to these courses. Using your current DARS report, check the courses that you have already completed in the Completed column. In the Planned column, list the quarter that you are planning to take the course (if you are planning to take the course in the quarter system). Make sure the course will be offered the quarter or semester you plan to take it by referring to the University's Course Schedule Planning Guides. Follow the process for both the quarter and semester systems. These guides are to assist you completing your course planning in DARS. In DARS, you will be using the course cart.

Map Instructions Using DARS

  1. Using the Quarter Course Planning Guide (indicates terms courses will be offered) and the Course Equivalency Guide (explains how quarter courses/sequences equate to semester courses/sequences), plan courses which will fulfill semester requirements in the remaining quarters through Summer 2012.
  2. Enter the quarter courses you plan to take in the Course Cart function of your semester DARS. See WINGS Resource Center for instructions.
  3. Rerun the semester DARS, being certain to click the box to “Include Planned Courses.”
  4. Using the Semester Course Planning Guide, plan your remaining courses beginning Fall 2012 and enter them into DARS Course Cart.
  5. Rerun the semester DARS, being certain to click the box to “Include Planned Courses.” If you have planned the appropriate courses in the DARS Course Cart, your semester DARS should show complete in all categories.
  6. Return to the “View DARS” link in WINGS Express, and click “Submit as Potential MAP” next to the semester DARS that shows all semester requirements complete.
  7. An advisor will review your DARS and either accept it as submitted or reject it with feedback on required changes. If rejected, make the requested changes and submit the corrected MAP for approval.

Before scheduling an advising appointment for course scheduling, students should follow the above instructions and complete the documents as completely as possible. Students should bring the Semester Transition Planning Guide and the My Advising Plan (MAP) documents to their scheduled advising appointment.
