Admission Requirements

Requirements apply to the following degree programs:

Students enrolling in Wright State University to study Computer Science or Computer Engineering may be admitted first into University College. They will be admitted into the College of Engineering and Computer Science upon successful completion of the following requirements:

  • Completion of 24 or more quarter credit hours of college level work
  • 2.25 cumulative GPA at WSU and in all academic work
  • C or higher grade in:
    • ENG 101
    • ENG 102
    • MTH 257
    • CS 240

The department advises students who are directly admitted to the College as Pre-CEG/CS majors under the following criteria:

  • ACT score greater than or equal to 25, or a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score greater than 1140 AND
  • High-school GPA greater than or equal to 3.25

Requirements for Combined Bachelor and Master Degree programs

• Majoring in a department & program that has an approved BS/MS program option.
• A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or better.
• Has less than 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) remaining to undergraduate graduation, but more than 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours)
• Has been a full-time student.

Financial Aid

Students who have been accepted into the dual degree program will receive undergraduate level financial aid until they have graduated and are fully admitted into the graduate portion of the degree program. Once the student is classified as being a graduate level student in Banner, the student will begin receiving graduate level financial aid. This distinction will apply to all forms of graduate support, including assistantships and Graduate Tuition Scholarships as well as financial aid obtained through the Financial Aid office.

How do I schedule an appointment with my academic advisor?

To schedule an appointment with your academic advisor you should call the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at 937-775-5131 and request an appointment. Make sure to call at least a week ahead of when you would like your appointment (the earlier the better) to be to make sure you get in on time. Be prepared to provide your UID, major, and contact information.

What is a PIN?

A PIN on your account means that you must still get permission to register for all classes. If you have a PIN on your account you must see your academic advisor or fill out the Request for Registration every quarter to get it removed. You can complete and submit the form online or get one at the Computer Science and Engineering department office and turn it in to 303 Russ Engineering Center.

How do I register for classes?

Please view the Registration Schedule for the upcoming quarter to find out when you can register. You should also check your Registration Status on WINGS Express to obtain the date and ensure that there are no Holds on your account that may prevent you from registering.

  1. Use WINGS Express to determine the class, section number and CRN of the classes that you would like to schedule. You may use the Schedule Planner to identify the classes you want along with any breaks. It displays all schedule combinations that are available based on the available seats at that time.
  2. Complete the online Request for Registration Permission form, or obtain a paper copy of the form in 303 Russ Center. Complete the entire form. Include the section number and CRN for each class and also the lab section for those classes that require labs (ex CS 241). Write the lab section on a separate line. Also, include the CRN for any writing intensive course.
  3. Give the completed form to the person at the front desk in 303 RC.
  4. No news is good news. Your course requests will be checked and approved if everything is correct. If there is a problem (ex. class closed, pre-requisite not met), you will be called at the number you indicated on the form. Our goal is to process your request within 24-48 hours.
  5. It is then up to you to register - on your specified date- either using WINGS Express or in person at the Registrar. Note that in person registration requires a printed form.

How do I gain full major status to my major program?

To obtain full major status in your major program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering you must complete the admission requirements. Once those admission requirements have been met you must schedule an appointment with your academic advisor, either Karen Meyer or Ron Taylor. Before your appointment be sure that you have chosen your major and a concentration if desired; you are NOT required to choose a concentration. At the appointment you will:

  • Complete the full admission paperwork
  • Review college policies
  • Review DARS report
  • Advisor will make any exceptions necessary
  • Submit an advisor approved audit that you can run from WINGS Express
  • Discuss job opportunities and career preparation
  • Discuss graduation requirements
  • Answer any additional questions

To complete the full admission paperwork; this appointment will be 30 minutes. After the paperwork has been completed it will be submitted to the Registrars office and full major status will be reflected on your academic transcript in approximately ten days. At this point you should no longer have to obtain permission to register for classes with the exception of selective topics courses. If you have significant transfer work or extenuating circumstances, make sure to schedule extra time for your appointment.
