Project title “Analog to Ethernet
Converter”
Project Sponsor: 3dB Labs, Inc. Dayton Ohio
The device will digitize fairly wideband data and convert the data into UDP
(User Datagram Protocol) packets to send over gigabit Ethernet.
Design Specifics:
- 4 or more DDC (Digital Downconverter)
channels, each feeding a separate 1gbe NIC (Network Interface Card) with a
different frequency band of the digitized signal
- each channel supporting ~20MHz
bandwidth
- 14-16 bit ADC, 16 bit samples
- external connector for a clock
reference that drives the ADC e.g. 10MHz
- external connector to accept precision
timecode signal (e.g. IRIG-B for high precision time synchronization) into
the digitized data , e.g. in packet headers or least significant bits
- good shielding
- fairly low power, e.g. <10 W per
gigabit "channel"
