Wright State University
8th Annual Trebuchet Competition

Target

The Wright State University College of Engineering and Computer Science Annual Trebuchet Competition culminates on competition day. However, a great deal of research, instruction and experimentation brings each team to the Trebuchet competition floor. The Trebuchet Design and Experimentation Technical Report competition is intended to recognize those high quality competition preparation efforts. Awards will be for first, second, and third place in the amounts of $100, $50, and $30. Reports may be written, by an individual, a single team, or a subset of the team.

This document provides the assessment criteria used by the judges for the Trebuchet used by the judges for the Trebuchet Design and Experimentation Report Competition.

10% Report Aesthetics A technical report requires an element of style. Style issues include aspects of report formatting, spacing, grammar, use of tables, figures and picture and conciseness of discussion. An inordinate number of these issues can render the document unreadable, and will also be reflected in scores of other areas.
15% Background The assessment includes how well the teams research, comprehend and explain the background material pertinent to their trebuchet construction and competition experience. Background items may include historical material, construction approaches, material characteristics, or other researched information.
30% Design and Construction The assessment includes how well the teams recount the pertinent aspects of their trebuchet design efforts and the construction experience.
30% Experimental Design and Analysis The assessment includes how well the teams approach their trebuchet testing. Issues to examine include objectives of the testing, factors considered in the tests, how complicating factors were controlled, how the experiments were planned and conducted and discussion of test results and analysis.
10% Budget Itemized planned budget, documenting planned and actual costs and manpower budget, planned and actual.
5% Summary and conclusion The assessment includes how well the teams recount their overall experience, recount any lessons learned, and summarize their pre-competition trebuchet design and construction efforts.

Teams should keep in mind the guidelines above are merely advisory. Teams are encouraged to make their own decisions regarding report focus and content with the goal of maximizing the assessment score received from the judging teams.

All reports are due in triplicate hard copy by the close of business, one week before the date of competition. Submissions should be mailed to:
