GSM & GPRS

In my studying to the Wireless Communication Systems that are being used around the world I noticed that GSM is very popular system, and it’s being used in Europe, Asia and Africa, and from my experience, I found big differences in the quality of service that GSM provides and the quality that AMPS provides here in USA.

I will take a closer look at the GSM architecture and services; and I will summarize the main differences between GSM and AMPS.I will also simulate the handoff procedure to draw a plot of the Distance form a base station and Received signal strength.

Also I’m currently studying two papers talk about the GSM evolution to GPRS.

Those articles provide an overview of General Packet Radio Services (GPRS). Basically, GPRS reuses the existing GSM infrastructure to provide end-to-end packet –switched services. I will describe the GPRS network nodes and the interface among these nodes.
