- Announcements -

  • 4th Annual Dayton Engineering Sciences Symposium - This year's Dayton Engineering Sciences Symposium was held on October 27.  The symposium is an annual Dayton ASME event designed to facilitate communication between members of the regional technical community, as well as to provide a forum for students (both undergraduate and graduate), researchers, and engineering practitioners to present their work.  This years symposium was an outstanding success and featured 98 technical presentations in 20 sessions spanning a broad range of engineering science topics, with a special emphasis on Energy.  The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. William Harrison, the Technical Director of Fuels and Energy for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Propulsion Directorate.  The keynote presentation was followed by a panel session where experts engaged in a lively discussion to cultivate a greater understanding of energy issues, present challenges, and future opportunities for the science and engineering communities.  We would like to thank everyone who participated for making this event possible, especially our industry sponsors.  You can find additional details about this year's event at the DESS website, such as a list of the abstracts presented,  the symposium program, and photos from the event here:  http://www.cs.wright.edu/~asme/DESS.htm

  • T-shirt Designs - We are looking for design ideas for an ASME club T-shirt layout.  If you have any suggestions, please email Mike Jonell

  • 33rd Dayton Cincinnati Aerospace Sympossium - The Dayton-Cincinnati Section of AIAA held the 33rd Annual Dayton-Cincinnati Aerospace Sciences Symposium on Tuesday 4 March 2008 at the Dayton Mall Holiday Inn.  The symposium program included twelve parallel sessions in the morning and afternoon, covering a wide range of aerospace-related technical disciplines.  This is the premier annual event for regional aerospace research and is designed to foster technical interchange between academic, government, and industry communities.  Thanks to all that made this event happen and we hope to see you at the symposium next year with a submission!

  • GE Aircraft Learning Centre Tour: As part of E-week, AIAA and ASME arranged a tour of the GE Learning Centre in Evendale, just outside the GE Aircraft Engine Plant.  Below is a group photo in front the enormous GE-90 (this engine is over 10 feet in diameter!):

Upon return from the tour, ASME and AIAA held a pizza party in 145 Russ with a showing of the documentary IMAX: Stormchasers.  Judging by the number of students, this was the largest and most attended event during all of E-week.

We are already in the planning phases for a similar tour of the Tank plant in Lima for next quarter, so if you are interested in these sorts of activities but want to make sure you can attend, please send us an email with your availability for next quarter so we can plan around it.
